Why supplements

Supplements are the hardest category on Amazon to operate in, and the reason is structural. Every other category asks whether your listing converts. This one asks that too, and then asks whether your Supplement Facts panel matches your bullets, whether your manufacturer's cGMP certificate came from an auditor Amazon accepts, whether the word your copywriter chose reads as a disease claim, and whether the extract ratio your supplier gave you can survive being written down.

Get any of that wrong and the listing goes dark. Not gradually — overnight, on your best-selling ASIN, usually during Q4. I have spent years on the other side of those outages, which is why Fussy Penguins does supplements and nothing else.

What I did before this

Two decades in analytics and enterprise reporting — most of it at Longview Solutions, where I ended as Analytics Director of Product Management, and later at insightsoftware. Before that I ran my own business intelligence consultancy.

That background is the reason I argue that ACoS is the wrong metric. Most people who arrive at Amazon advertising come from marketing. I came from financial reporting, where nobody would accept a number that ignores cost of goods, fees, returns and promotions and still calls itself profitability. Net contribution margin per ASIN is a harder number to build. It is also the only one that tells you whether the business works.

Why I built Verid8

Compliance kept turning out to be the pain point nobody had properly solved. Manual review works — read the panel, read the bullets, read the A+ content, flag what crosses the line — right up until it doesn't. It does not scale, and the failure mode is silent: a claim survives in a backend field or an image nobody re-read, and the first you hear of it is a suppression notice.

So I built Verid8, the first compliance tool built specifically for supplement sellers on Amazon. It reads listings against FDA and DSHEA claim rules and Amazon's supplement policy, including the places that get overlooked — backend search terms, text inside images, the Supplement Facts image, and variation children. Fussy Penguins runs it across every client catalogue.

How to reach me

If a listing is down right now, the fastest route is telling us what happened — include the exact wording Amazon used, because that usually determines the answer. If you want the catalogue-wide version, that is the audit. And if you would rather just talk, I am on LinkedIn and I answer.
